## **The Craft**

Kyle Mosher is a multidisciplinary artist and illustrator based in Charlotte, North Carolina. He creates art for murals, fashion and music collaborations, brand partnerships, and custom commissions.

### **The Spark**

When did this all start? Not in art school. Not even with painting. It started with birds.  
  
As a kid, Kyle spent hours birdwatching and sketching. "She thought I was a weirdo."  
  
Hockey became his identity, though. It wasn't until repeated injuries in college forced him to rethink everything. He enrolled in a community college drawing class, built a portfolio, and got accepted into art school.  
  
"That was the first thing I'd ever really done entirely on my own."

### **The Jump**

Kyle was broke. Completely broke. He had just enough money to put gas in his car for a job interview in Boston.  
  
Traffic stopped. His gas tank hit empty and he broke down until his phone buzzed with a PayPal notification.  
  
He had won a design competition for rapper Yelawolf, and Interscope Records had just sent his payment. He never made it to the interview.  
  
He used that project to land the next one. And the next one.  
  
"I didn't have a plan B. I was trying to make it. I think the only reason I ended up where I am is because I just outlasted everyone."

### **The Now**

Today his work lives on buildings across the country, but he still thinks of himself as an illustrator first. Mosher’s portfolio includes collaborations with  The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Charlotte Hornets, Don Toliver, New Era, NASCAR, MLS, Dunkin Donuts, Schumacher NYC, Marriott, and Complex.

### **The Workshop**

**What’s a big misconception?**

- Artists are often seen as emotional or lacking work ethic, but he’s always had a blue-collar mentality.
- “I wanted to prove artists could work just as hard as anyone else.”

**What are you still trying to Master?**

- Editorial illustration. At his core, he’s an illustrator.
- “Murals have given me an incredible life, but there are still so many creative spaces I haven't explored yet.”

**What do you attribute your success to?**

- The more he’s trusted his intuition and pursued the things that genuinely make him happy, the more his life has aligned.
- “One of my favorite ideas is, 'What you're seeking is also seeking you.'"

**How much of the craft is talent vs. work?**

- 10% talent
- 90% work ethic
